Mental Fitness is the 'how-to' for applying skills, tools and habits to protect and improve our mental health.
Just as learning and doing physical fitness activities helps you protect and improve your physical health, so to learning and doing Mental Fitness activities helps you protect and improve your mental health.
It's a totally new (but completely common-sense) approach to learning about mental health.
Mental Fitness is important, and needed, because for far too long 'mental health' has focused on what can go wrong, rather than how we can take care of it and improve it.
Everybody has mental health. But not everybody has a mental illness. Mental Fitness helps us protect our mental health if we're doing okay, and helps us improve our mental health if we've been unwell.
It's not designed to replace medication, or therapy or other approaches. Instead, it's a language, mindset and set of strategies that empowers us to take care of our own mental health before things go wrong.
Resilience Agenda was started in Melbourne, Australia, by Hadleigh Fischer.
After a decade working in HR consulting, Hadleigh decided mental health needed more than awareness, it needed action.
Inspired by his own family's struggles with mental ill-health, his desire to protect his own wellbeing proactively, and his frustration with the prevailing stigma and disinterest around the narrative of mental health, he started using the term Mental Fitness. And the rest is history.
Hadleigh is the creator of the annual Mental Fitness Diary & Planner, he is the creator of Mental Fitness Daily online training, the host of the Resilience Agenda Radio podcast, a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop faciliator, and now lives in Switzerland with his wife and young son.
Resilience Agenda was created as a way to inspire people to reimagine how they think about and take action on their mental health.
The science shows that resilience is a learnable skill, and that the key to feeling calmer, more focused and more fulfilled is through small daily changes to the way we think, feel and act.
We wanted to put resilience, the science of functioning under pressure, on the agenda.
That's why we started with a simple paper diary. Each year, over 20,000 people use on to plan their time, be inspired, and transform their approach to their energy and wellbeing.
Lots of ways.
